Tournament Outline

The ClubFootball Summer 5-a-side Cup is a friendly 5-a-side competition held on the artificial pitches at the ClubFootball Xiaowuji 5-a-side Centre. The competition runs over 3 weeks from 14th to 31st July 2008, and is contested by 32 teams. The competition is designed to be played in a spirit of Fair Play, and is open to men抯 amateur and corporate teams of all levels.

For Week 1 teams enter one of 8 groups, teams finishing 1st and 2nd enter the Cup Competition to play for Positions 1 to 16 in Week 2 and teams finishing 3rd and 4th playng off in the Plater Competition for Positions 17 to 32.

Week 2 sees teams in both the Cup and Plate Competition divided into 4 groups of 4 teams, with the 1st and 2 placed teams in the Cup Competition playing off for Positions 1 to 8, and the 3rd and 4th placed teams playing off for Positions 9 to 16. In the Plate Competition, 1st and 2nd placed teams play for Positions 17 to 24, and 3rd and 4th placed teams play for Positions 25 to 32.

In Week 3, each group of 8 teams is divided into 4 Quarter Finals, the winners enter the Semi Finals, and the winners of that the Final. All losing teams at each stage of Week 3 enter a play-off to determine the final positions for the 2008 ClubFootball Summer 5-a-side Cup.

Results and tables will be posted on the ClubFootball website, and trophies awarded to the winners of the four final groups in Stage 3.


Tournament Format

The tournament is divided into 3 stages, one per week. No teams are eliminated during the competition, and each team will be allocated a final placing at the end of the three weeks.

For the draw, teams will be seeded according to their final positions in the May tournament of the MasterCard ClubFootball 5-a-side League, with newly-registering teams allocated as "wild cards".

  • Venue: ClubFootball Xiaowuji 5-a-side Centre, South East 4th Ring Road
  • Substitutions: Five-a-side teams with a maximum of 7 substitutes and unlimited substitutions.
  • Fixtures: Stage 1: July: 14-17th, Stage 2: 21-24th, Stage 3: 28-31st
  • Time: Session 1: 20:00 - 21:15pm, Session 2: 21:15 - 22:30pm
  • Match Duration: 20 minute games, no half time. Teams play 3 games per match night.

Stage 1: Mon 14th, Tues 15th, Weds 16th July, Thurs 17th July (teams play one of these days)

  • 32 teams in 8 groups of 4.
  • Each team plays 3 matches, against other 3 teams in group.
  • Each match 20 mins long, no halftime.

Teams finishing 1st and 2nd in group, go to Stage 2 to play in "Cup Competition" for places 1-16. Teams finishing 3rd and 4th in group go to Stage 2 to play in "Plate Competition" for places 17-32. No teams are eliminated.

Stage 2: Mon 21st, Tues 22nd, Weds 23rd July, Thurs 24th July (teams play one of these days).

"Cup Competition" (For places 1 to 16)

  • Teams 1 to 16: 4 groups of 4.
  • Each team plays 3 matches, against other 3 teams in group.
  • Each match 20 mins long, no halftime.

Teams finishing 1st and 2nd in the group go to Stage 3 to play for places 1-8. Teams finishing 3rd and 4th in the group go to Stage 3 to play for places 9-16.

"Plate Competition" (For places 17-32)

  • Teams 17 to 32: 4 groups of 4
  • Each team plays 3 matches, against other 3 teams in group.
  • Each match 20 mins long, no halftime.

Teams finishing 1st and 2nd in the group go to Stage 3 to play for places 17-24. Teams finishing 3rd and 4th in the group go to Stage 3 to play for places 25-32. No teams are eliminated.


Stage 3

Mon 28th July - Play-offs for positions 25 - 32
Tue 29th July - Play-offs for positions 17 -24
Wed 30th July - Play-offs for positions 9 - 16
Thur 31st July - Play-offs for positions 1-8
  • Each night has 8 teams: Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and Finals.
  • Each team plays one Quarter Final, the winner goes through to the Semi-Finals and the losing team plays-off against the other losing quarter-finalists. The winning Semi-Finalists enter the final, the losing teams play off for 3/4th place within each group. The Final determines the 1st and 2nd place of the group.
  • Each match 20 mins long, no halftime.
  • Trophies will be presented to the winners of the four final week groups.

Please note: To enter the competition, teams must be available from Monday through Thursday in order to complete their fixtures. Your team's matchday for weeks 2 and 3 will depend on your results the previous week.
